The game is being put together by Medeama title sponsors GoldFields Ghana is meant to raise funds to support the Shai Hills Resource Reserve.
The tourism centre is relatively well protected but has got a significant potential for development. Its attractiveness relates to its size, beauty and proximity to Accra (36km) and Akosombo, as well as important tourism-, community-, educational- and environmental conservation development possibilities. Aside a good facelift and some restructuring, project opportunities include starting new activities such as mountain biking, rock-climbing, construction of facilities (a research center, eco-lodges, stone viewing hides, etc.) and local species translocation. In July 2011, the LCA Ghana Chapter has successfully been mandated for 3 years to set up a Steering Committee and drive such development, with the vision to later replicate best practices on larger scale within the country.
The purpose of the LCA is primarily to establish a link between business and conservation, by influencing both national and international business leaders to support investment in the development of Africa conservation-related resources.
National LCA Chapters are established in each of its Africa member countries, comprising of representatives of both conservation and the business communities of that particular country. Each National LCA Chapter identifies its own national conservation-led project, with the aim of protecting nature and to improve the socio-economic position of those communities living in the vicinity of conservation areas.
The LCA Board, in turn, uses its influence to support and promote such conservation-led development and investment opportunities of the respective countries.
