Wassaman United moved from the bottom but still remained in the drop with a shock 3-2 over neighbours Medeama SC on Sunday at the T&A Park.
Goals from Joseph Mugre, Yufa Zuga and Shaffiu Mumuni claimed the vital points for Wassaman as Luis Agyemang and Karim Abubakar grabbed the consolation goals.
Wassaman United needed maximum points from the game to lift themselves from the foot of the table knowing the outcome of the dog-fight between Arsenal and Bechem United could be vital for them.
The game remained an open one for the first half hour but Wassaman took the initiative to score the opener.
Former Aduana Stars player Mugre rattled the net with a beautiful left footer drive on 37 minutes.
Striker Luis Agyemang snatched the equaliser for Medeama four minutes before the break with a trademark intelligent finish.
Wassaman returned from the break looking rejuvenated and excellent in discharging their duties.
Former Hearts midfielder Abdul Bashiru was hacked down in the penalty area and another former Hearts player Yufa Zuga darted a piercing drive to send Wassaman 2-1 up on 72 minutes.
Shaffiu Mumuni made it 3-1 with ten minutes left before Karim Abubakar pulled a goal back for Medeama on the stroke of full time.
The win has catapulted Wassaman to 14th place on the table.
